General Warranty

Our woollen carpets come with guarantees that cannot be excluded under the New Zealand Consumer Guarantees Act 1993 (CGA). As a consumer, you are entitled to a replacement or refund for a major failure and compensation for any other reasonably foreseeable loss or damage. You are also entitled to have the goods repaired or replaced if they fail to be of acceptable quality and the failure does not amount to a major failure.

Please note, this warranty does not cover:

  • Normal wear and tear.
  • Damage caused by improper care.
  • Changes in appearance due to environmental factors such as sunlight or humidity.

For more information about your rights under the Consumer Guarantees Act, visit Consumer Protection New Zealand.

Manufacturing Defects Limited Warranty

Nodi provides a limited warranty for your woollen carpet against manufacturing defects for up to 5 years, provided the following conditions are met:

  • Carpet is purchased from an approved Nodi retailer and installed by a qualified flooring installation contractor.
  • The carpet is professionally installed over a quality new underlay and in accordance with New Zealand Standard NZS 2455.1:2007.
  • Carpets are cleaned and maintained following our Cleaning & Maintenance Guidelines, a copy is provided with your purchase and can be accessed on the Nodi website.
  • The carpet is purchased as first grade; the warranty does not cover carpets purchased as a second.

If a manufacturing defect is found, Nodi will cover the cost of repairing or replacing the carpet in the affected room or area. If the original carpet is unavailable, a replacement of comparable quality and the nearest available colour from our current range will be provided, or Nodi will compensate you for the actual replacement cost of the carpet in the affected room or area.

Manufacturing defects are defined as flaws or defects that occur during the production process and cause the carpet to fail to meet its intended quality and performance standards.

Workmanship Limited Warranty

Where Nodi directly arranges installation through our approved subcontractor network, a 12-month workmanship limited warranty applies on our woollen carpet range. This covers installation-related defects such as stretching, seaming issues and improper fitting.

This warranty is provided on the following conditions:

  • Your installation was arranged directly with Nodi.
  • The site was prepared according to our guidelines.
  • The carpet is purchased as first grade; the warranty does not cover carpets purchased as a second.

Should any defects arise within 12 months of installation that fall within this warranty, Nodi will arrange for the necessary repairs or adjustments.

Non-Transferable

Both the manufacturing and workmanship warranties are non-transferable and apply only to the original purchaser and installation site. The warranty period begins from the date of purchase (manufacturing warranty) and date of installation (workmanship warranty).

Warranty Exclusions

These warranties do not cover:

  • Any non-woollen Nodi products installed as carpets. These are installed at the purchaser’s own risk.
  • Carpets treated after installation with any topical chemicals, such as fungicides, stain-resistant treatments, or cleaning agents that alter the properties of the carpet or are not recommended by Nodi.
  • Damage caused by prolonged or excessive moisture exposure.
  • Damage from defective carpet installation or poor maintenance practices.
  • Damage or inferior finish from failure of, or inadequate, underlay being used.
  • Damage resulting from the failure of underfloor heating issues or laying carpet over another carpet.
  • Damage caused by accidents or abuse, including soiling, burning, flooding, cutting, or damage caused by pets.
  • Damage resulting from natural disasters.
  • Damage caused by sporting equipment, general roller traffic, or dragging heavy objects over the flooring.
  • Damage due to the lack of protection under furniture with castor wheels e.g. office chairs.
  • Carpets installed in non-residential, commercial applications, or tenanted premises.
  • Characteristics that may appear with your carpet which are considered common for hand woven, wool carpets. These are listed in the following section.
  • Nodi products are not guaranteed against insect attack, including carpet beetles. While all Nodi wool products are treated with Permethrin to deter insects, this treatment does not guarantee insect-proof protection, nor does it prevent them from entering your home.
Wool carpets natural characteristics

The following are common characteristics of hand woven, wool carpets and are not considered manufacturing defects.

Appearance Retention: All carpets change appearance over time. Carpet pile will flatten to some extent due to normal use. Regular vacuuming and periodic professional cleaning will reduce the degree of flattening. Matting is a wear-induced characteristic that is seen as the merging together of carpet tufts to the stage where they may become less defined. Matting occurs in all carpets to some extent and is not considered a manufacturing defect.

Cut pile carpet | Permanent pile reversal: Also known as Shading, is a phenomenon that is not fully understood. It is believed to occur when the carpet pile changes direction, affecting how light is reflected or absorbed, similar to velvet fabrics. This is a natural characteristic and not a manufacturing fault, and it does not impact the carpet's performance. We recommend discussing this feature with your NODI representative when selecting a cut pile carpet.

Colour & texture: Every product is unique, and variance between the sample and final products can occur. While every measure is taken to ensure accurate colour matching, a slight variation in both colour and texture may occur from batch to batch.

Colour fading: Like all textiles, exposure to direct sunlight can cause carpets to fade over time, especially natural fibre carpets. This is an important consideration when selecting a carpet for your room. We recommend applying premium surface protection to decrease the risk of fading, as well as the use of curtains or UV window treatments in rooms with strong sunlight exposure.

Pop-ups: Short fibres may pop up while the carpet settles, this is common in handwoven carpets and particularly in loop pile construction. These can be trimmed or pushed back through. Do not pull the tuft or it could leave a hole in the carpet.

Pilling: Pilling occurs when carpet fibres become loose and form small balls or pills on the surface, especially in high-traffic areas. Regular maintenance and proper vacuuming can help manage pilling, which is a normal occurrence rather than a defect.

Roll pressure marks: Sometimes, new carpets may show light and dark areas. These occur when the weight of the roll presses on layers beneath, bending the fibres, or when rolls are wound at different tensions and laid next to each other. With regular vacuuming and foot traffic, these marks will fade over three to six months. They are not considered a manufacturing defect.

Shedding: Shedding, or Fluffing, is most noticeable in the first few months after installation, as loose fibres left over from the manufacturing process come to the surface. This is common with new wool carpets and particularly with cut pile construction. This is normal and typically subsides with regular vacuuming over time.

Seam Peaking: Seam peaking is normal when joined carpet is stretched into place. Lighting conditions can accentuate a carpet seam and create the impression that the pile on the side closer to the light source is a lighter shade than the pile on the other side of the join. Carpet seams are never invisible, but they should be straight, aligned and as flat as possible.

Tracking: Tracking is the imprint left by footprints on your carpet. This is common on cut pile surfaces and usually disappears after a thorough vacuum, however it will reappear after the carpet is walked on again. This is seen more often in high traffic areas such as doorways and hallways.

What to do if you have an issue with your carpet:

If purchased from one of our approved retail partners: Please reach out to the retailer where you purchased the carpet with your proof of purchase and details of the issue. They will assist you to process the claim and will liaise with Nodi on your behalf. The retailer may ask for photos or other documentation to assess the defect.

If purchased directly from Nodi: Please contact us at hello@nodi.co.nz with your proof of purchase, details of the issue, and any relevant photos or documentation that show the defect. Ensure that the carpet was installed and maintained according to our guidelines, as this will be necessary to validate your claim. Once we receive your claim, our team will review the information and guide you through the next steps.

Where a claim is approved, remedial work will include cost of labour, installation, materials, and freight, but will not include other costs to rectify e.g. alternative accommodation, removing equipment, furniture, furnishings, or loss of profits. Your consumer rights remain in effect in addition to these warranties.

In all cases, we aim to resolve claims promptly and fairly.
